The Bathroom debate

Everybody knows public bathrooms are the worst. They're dirty, smelly, and not to mention all of the vandalism. It seems like every stall has some crude joke or drug/drinking related comment. Well my friends, I think I found the weirdest that will top off any of those that you may have seen. Here it is:

"I have lived, Sir, a long time and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth -- that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings that "except the Lord build they labor in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall be become a reproach and a bye word down to future age. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments by Human Wisdom, and leave it to chance, war, and conquest." Benjamin Franklin, Constitutional convention, 1787.

It was basically the "religious debate stall" Now I was thinking of some things and I would like to hear some discussion going on here. Is Vandalism of a stall alright in this instance? Should we be going out of our way to scribble a whole long speech just like this on a bathroom stall? (It was high up on the wall so it rules out what you could possibly turn into some humor) Should we let little things like this for example, to slide and just stand up against the big "threats" or should we stand up to things like this too? Again, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. I think the discussion inclined shall enjoy it.
Ok, GO!

i think vandalism is wrong and lame. unless it's something really hilarious. then it's still wrong, just not nearly as lame.

Agreed. If that guy was so passionate about it he could have typed it up and taped it to the stall wall. Or should he have even bothered?

I don't check that stall on a regular basis.
I was kind of using that as an example. What I was trying to say was should we go around and stand up to every little debate and discussion against us, such as some joe schmoe standing on his soap box on the corner railing on christianity or should we let some things slide.

he could've copied the whole bible on the bathroom walls and it would still be vandalism. it would look cool though.

aaaahahahahaha!!!

in answer to your actual question, cory, i think we have to pick our battles. if we tried to stand up to every little thing, we would get burned out hard and fast. a lot of people who get up on their soap box to rail on our faith aren't really interested in our response anyway. (especially the ones who anonymously write their views on bathroom stalls {vandalism} or church comment cards or anonymous comments on our blogs, for that matter) so nothing we say will matter. i think it's important to stand up when it will make a personal difference to somebody. and it's important to always say what we say out of love and compassion. if we ever feel like we are "arguing" our faith...it's probably not making the lasting effect we desire anyway.

also, anything written on public property is vandalism...no matter what it is.

ahahaha I guess he must've been a douche if he wanted our national bird to be the turkey instead of the bald eagle.

Anyways, that was the response I wanted to hear Amy. I agree totally. I mean we could talk to some soap box douche till we're blue in the face but I'm pretty sure he won't listen because he doesn't want to.
